Myrrh is a gum-resin extracted from a number of small, thorny tree species of the genus Commiphora. Myrrh is native to the Middle East, Northern Africa and India.

Myrrh has a grounding aroma with deep, rich, and earthy tones, reminiscent of the dry, resinous scent of the desert or ancient temples. The fragrance carries a subtle sweetness, almost like a dark honey or aged wine, blended with a slight bitterness. A slightly sharp, camphor-like, or medicinal aspect also emerges, contributing to its purifying and cleansing qualities.

Myrrh rids the area of negative vibrations when burned it is thought to provide a shield against harmful influences. Used for purification, protection and self-healing. Its earthy, resinous scent has a calming, stabilizing effect, helping individuals stay rooted in the present moment. In Eastern medicine, myrrh is used for its restorative properties. The scent is said to boost the spirits and the soul, and is often used to alleviate the symptoms of nervous system disorders.

Myrrh was hugely popular with our ancient ancestors, used as medicine by the Chinese and Egyptians, with the Egyptians also using it as a part of mummification. Myrrh was used to make Ketoret, which was an incense blend consecrated and used in the early temples of Jerusalem.
